Martin Aveling developed his passion for wildlife art in Africa, stimulated by the Continent’s sharp tropical light and dramatic colour palette. Through his favoured pastel pencils he builds layers of depth and pigment on which to overlay exquisitely worked detail - quivering whiskers, muscles poised for action and eyes shining with intense, individual expression.

Martin has staged successful solo exhibitions in both Kenya and the UK. Through his work he raises the profile of endangered wildlife and generates support for its conservation.

“The penguins, the gorillas, the polar bears and the birds of paradise… we all have to care for these wonderful, beautiful, astonishing creatures, because they are in our hands.”

Sir David Attenborough, 2006
